If you're going to try, go all the way ... [quote]

If you're going to try, go all the way. Otherwise don't even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives, jobs. And maybe your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery, isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance. Of how much you really want to do it. And you'll do it, despite rejection in the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods. And the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.
– Matt Dillon, as Henry Chinaski, in Factotum (2005),
based on the book Factotum, by Charles Bukowski.

  1. I laughed when I just read your profile, John. It's nice to know someone other than me plays those practical jokes. Years ago, I used to fill a blow-up punching bag with water, then when guests were leaving, I would stand on my veranda, three stories up, and squeeze the water out all over them. Should have seen them run. LOL.

Nice to know another practical joker. :)

Keep the great posts coming, John. They're always entertaining.

  2. Thanks, Trish.
I leave myself open to reprisal with practical jokes, because pranks always have to be paid back, but it's always good for a laugh.
A good balloon full of water, dropped from a great height prank never gets old :)
I worked at a factory during the 80s and kept turning this guy's machine off at the mains. He was baffled and so were the engineers. They even had blueprints spread out on the floor, scratching their heads, trying to work out what the problem was. Then I'd just click the on switch again and all would work. Mwua-ha-ha-ha-haaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

  3. Love a good practical joke! But you have to be willing to give it and get it back at you!

Great quote here too! If you are going to go for it - go all out!

  4. Get a banana and use a [sterile] needle to poke through skin on the corner, where it’s least noticeable, and slice banana inside with a sideways sweeping motion. Repeat this every half-inch down the banana. When the banana is peeled [if you have done it right] the banana will spill out in segments. Watch the expression on the face of the person holding the empty banana peel. It's worked for me every time >:D
